I assume it's much more flexible, but I can't get my head around exactly how much work I need to do myself:įirstly how hard is it to setup basic remote commands etc. So this has also lead me to look at LIRC.īut I'm not really aware of the challenges of LIRC? It's kind of hard to find proper information on it. Does anyone here have any information on using it? Is the 6ft line of sight thing very accurate? I would be surprised if it's not accurate given how IR works, but I'd love some info from people here who have had first hand experience. This limitation seems very very shortsighted of FLIRC, especially when they went through the effort to add the LED, it feels like they didn't test it properly before building it and shipping it out. Especially since many of the IR tutorials I've read for arduino projects ( e.g.) have always suggested using two larger LEDs with lenses, one narrow angle and one wide angle. I'm no electrical engineer, but I know that if you use a small surface mount IR LED in a tiny device like this that's directly in a USB port, it's barley going to work. Then I found a post from August the feature still isn't implemented, but you can use the API to call a function with an array of integers representing the signal.Īnd what's worse than that the dev says if it doesn't have line of sight and is within 6ft it doesn't generally work. I try to find some information on this and find a forum post from 2017 saying the feature isn't implemented yet (despite the device being released.). Second problem is that yhe website advertises v2 (current version) as coming with an IR transmitter as well as a receiver.

The first one is does it allow layers? Can I have it so I press say button X on the remote, and then it switches the functions of 90% of the buttons to something else. I see FLIRC recommended but everywhere I look I can't find out if it: So I've been looking into both of these for a one remote setup for a family member.

I updated the new Flirc to 3.8 and the "Home" button worked! I then updated the older Flirc for good measure./r/HTPC - Home Theater PC - Drive your home theater media experience with a PC or media device. I noted that both Flircs were at firmware version 3.6.

Buried under Advanced in the Flirc software I found the option to force a firmware update. I then put the new Flirc in the older Fire TV and it would not recognize the "Home" button! I downloaded and installed the Flirc software on my computer and looked for a firmware update.

I then tried using the "problem remote" with the older Fire TV and it worked fine. I went through the same procedures but found that everything worked except the "Home" button. Once I programmed my activities and customized my buttons and screens all was good!Ī couple weeks later I purchased another Amazon Fire TV and Flirc. After some experimentation, I learned that I needed to enter a brand of "Flirc" and a model number of "Fire TV". When adding a device to the Harmony remote you need to give it a brand and then a model number.

While I was very familiar with the Harmony 650 there were no instructions with the Flirc so it was an exercise in discovery to figure out how to program the remote to work with it. Some time ago I purchased an Amazon Fire TV and Flirc USB primarily to use with the Playstation Vue service. I am brand new to this forum and have not read any postings of yet but wanted to share my experience using the Flirc with the Fire TV and Harmony 650.
